President Wilson, ! upon his return here, will be prepared to stay three months. This was learned today to-day in connection with negotiations for the Hbtl Hischof fselm. the new mansion which the French government will place at-the disposal of the president. - It is a magnificent structure, built eighteen years ago at a cost of 1.000,000. With the furnishings, it represents an Investment of more than $3,000,000. It has forty rooms wjth gorgeous appointments. appoint-ments. The adjoining house will be occupied oc-cupied by special police and fire forces. Additional precautions are taken in view of the attempt on the life of Premier Clemenceau. The hotel is at 11 Place des Etats "tints, so named because former American Ameri-can ' Ambassador Levi P. Morton bought a house in the vicinity which the French thought would be the permanent home of the American embassy. President and Mrs. Wilson's rooms are on the first floor, and. the president, from either bedroom or library, can look out of the window and say "Good morning' to Premier Lloyd George, whose house is d'rectly opposite on the Rue Nitot. Another feature of the new location Is that Premier Clemenceau's home is but a few blocks distant, thus making It a comparatively easy matter for tKS three big men of the peace conference to get together evenings. Workmen were busy today on the mansion, man-sion, which is now owped by the widow of M. Bischoffseim, who -was a banker, i She Is now the wife of Francis de Crois-' Crois-' set, an author, and both have expressed happiness at their being able to turn the'r h6me over to the Wilsons, i Because of the air raids, they had removed re-moved most of their furniture and art works to a chateau near Orleans, but e'even motor trucks have been dispatched dis-patched to bring the things back. While- the lease on the part of the French government for the hotel does not speclfv the period of time, but says "f of the length of the president's stay," the agents understand he will be here for three months. This Would take him back to the United States by mid-June. |
