Red Cross Campaign for Relief in Europe Is Under Way. ..(- 0METHING from every house- hold" is the plea for the Ked i J Cross nation-wide drive for used clothing, blankets aud shoes vliicli opened yesterday, to continue con-tinue one week. The Salt Lake chapter has been assigned as-signed a quota of S2.000 pounds. All contributions will be used for relief abroad. Headquarters have been established estab-lished at IIS South Main street, and in every fire station and school house in the city. livery kind of clothing for all ages and both sexes will be accepted. The clothing need not be iu perfect condition, condi-tion, for there arc tbousauds of destitute desti-tute women in the recovered territory who are eager to repair the garments that need mending. All contributions will be forwarded to a central collecting collect-ing agency and thence shipped to Ku-rope Ku-rope iu vessels of the European relief administration. They will be distributed distrib-uted under the supervision of the Anyri-can Anyri-can lied Cross.. In Salt Lake yesterday the Ked C'ros hit upon a most novel scheme of advertising adver-tising the drive for old clothes. A fire department squad-wagon, driven by George Jensen, patrolled the streets and collected garments. Mrs. George M. Miller, chairman of the overseas old clothes campaign committee, com-mittee, when asked about the outlook, stated: "The clothing must come in faster if Salt Lake is to make her quota. I know that clothes arc scarce, but the need is so great that each person can find something some-thing to give. If it had not been for the fire department helping us, I could ; easily have carried all the clothes donated donat-ed down to headquarters on my back. We need more clothes and more volunteers to care for them. We need a great (Jeal of help such as the fire department members have given us." |
