Show TONOPAH DUE'S IMPORTANCE GROWS Developments on 470-foot Level Show Rich Ore in Volume. Special to The Tribune. GOLDFXELD. Nev.. Iarch 4. Xev marvels sire beinj: added each day to the known riches ol the Tonopah Divide mine, which la now demonstrated to be one of the greatest silver-gold discoveries discov-eries ever made in the history of mining. Next to the Comstocks in the beet days of Virginia City, the Tonopah Divide undoubtedly stands pre-eminent and, judging from the ehowing at the present stasre of development, it seems not at all unlikely that it may some day equal any single discovery ever made on t the famous Cometock lode. Latest . officially announced developments develop-ments on th 470-foot or lowest level yet opened, where the ore body was penetrated pene-trated by a crosscut from the shaft a few daya aero, show a full face of ore In the drift which on Wednesday assayed $269.10 per ton. the metallic content being be-ing 243.9 ounces silver and 1.25 ounces gold, and on Thursday the face samples ran $478 per ton. t These values are several sev-eral times higher than were found at a relative position on the 365-foot level above, and indicates a great increase in values with additional depth. After it was struck on the new level, the ore was crosscut for twenty-five feet without reaching the hanging wall ol the vein, but lower values were encountered, encoun-tered, so a drift was started southeast on the strike of the vein and the values given above were officially announced after the drift had proceeded for 'a distance dis-tance of thirty feet from the crosscut. What the values will be when opened by a crosscut which will bo driven as soon as the shaft, now down eighty feet below be-low the 470-foot level, has been sunk to 570. can only be conjectured on the basis of the greater values that have been shown on each level with Increasing depth. The recently disclosed gold content con-tent of $25 per ton is considerable higher than any values tho ore has previously shown in the yellow metal. At tho southeast end of the ore shoot, which has been opened for a length of 420 feet on the 365 level, crosscuts demonstrate dem-onstrate the ore bodV to be eighty feet in width, with good values still showing in both faces of the crosscuts. In other places the vein ranges from fifteen to twenty and thirty feet in width. The lowest values ever shown by face samples sam-ples in either crosscuttlng or drifting in the ore were $12 per ton, and the highest high-est have run into the hundreds. At one olace where a prospecting stope about twenty feet across was started above the 365 level, three railroad cars of ore that were extracted averaged $37 per ton. but certain sections of the ore body are so streaked and spotted with horn silver that samples would show hundreds or even thousands of dollars per ton. |
