Show ALTA CON. SHOWS' MARKED BETTERMENT i General Manager Says Gain in Last Six Weeks Is Striking. Eack. at his offices, after an absence of nearly seven weeks spent at the property prop-erty of tho Alta Consolidated Mining company In the I.lttlo Cottonwood mining district, Manager J. D. Lewis said yestermorning; yester-morning; that the Improvement In physical condition, both as regards quality and quantity of ore, could bo considered as little lit-tle leas than remarkable. While the heavy storms that prevailed during nearly all of February und the first half of March wore effectual In preventing the shipment of any considerable volume of ore, the miners were safely and comfortably com-fortably housed, with an abundance of provisions and the development work went Hteadily on regrardless of tho weather. One of the most Interesting points of development, said Mr. I. owls, was the work dono on the raise from the Hohoken fissure, directly under the old and once v.oted Matilda ground. This raise has been carried up about fifty feet with a strong showing of high-grade ore, average yamples of five mine cars showing values of 72 ounces silver, 12 per cent lead and rl per cent copper, giving tho ore a commercial com-mercial value of approximately $100 per ton. In the development on the Bralna fissure, fis-sure, another part of tho Alta Consolidated Consoli-dated ground that Is being opened as fast as possible, the drift is in 100 feet and has ore the entire distance, a carbonate car-bonate that will average about $40 per ton. The winze that is being sunk from this levol Is down forty-five feet and some excellent sulphides are coming in, the last round of shots having disclosed a number of lumps of galena. The company com-pany has ahput five carloads of ore ready to ship and will sond tho product to the bumpier as fast as transportation conditions condi-tions will permit. Numerous other properties in the district dis-trict are reported as active in handling ores of a good shipping grade, among them the South Ilecla, the Hells, Colum-bus-Rexa'il and Michigan-Utah. There Is a general feeling of optimism and a conviction con-viction that the opening season will afford af-ford the Alta-Cottonwoods more opportunity oppor-tunity for work on a large scale than was possible at any time lust year, this being due to the fact that It is reasonably certain that transportation problems will soon be satisfactorily solved. |
