Show DECISION REACHED "TO PAVE COTTER STREET Notwithstanding the. notice served by the Utah Light &. Traction' company that it would ask of the public utilities commission com-mission permission to take up its Center street track rather than stand the com -' pa nyfj share of the cost of paving, the city commission determined last night to advertise notice of intention to pave the street.. - The decision was readied after a long conference with a delegation of Center street property owners present. The majority ma-jority of the delegation favored taking up the matter of compromise .when it should come before the public utilities commission, a possibility pointed out to them by Commissioner Karl A. Scheid. Previous efforts of the delegation to agree . upon compromise measures . had failed and were threatening to prolong the meeting. The- traction company has offered to stand the cost of paving with macadam and Tariva between its car lines and rails. The specifications call for bitulithic for the entire width of the street. H. F. Dicke, manager of the traction company, disclaimed intent ion ..of . threat on the part of the company. lie said that the company simply could, not afford the cost of the paving in consideration of the revenue derived from the line. The commissioners were loath to net in the matter, because of the limited representation represen-tation of property owners present and fear that any action taken mignt not be in accord with the will of the major it y. The explanation was given that the commission com-mission could forco the company to pave its share of the street if the tracks remained' re-mained' 'down, but their continuance would lie a matter for the public utilities commission com-mission to decide, according to the advice of City Attorney Y. H. Folland. A delegation of properly owners of Farmers ward, recently annexed I o the c i t y , was present with a request for various va-rious i nip rove men Is in their locality, in--eluding wattrmn i ns, sidewalks, electric I i glits, sewer connections, the ope ring of Second Fast street, provision for a park, a fire stn t ion aurl other things.
