McDonald, a deputy sheriff, passed a spot in the road' just north of the point where Mrs. Margaret Henderson was killed by an automobile on State street, near Twelfi South street, on the niyht of June 3. This was part of the evidence introduced intro-duced yesterdav at the inquest called at the request of Sheriff John S. Corleas into the ceath of Mrs. Henderson. The fact that the radiator cap Is gone from McDonald's car has been noted in examinations made by Sheriff Corless. McDonald said, when asked about it, tnat he had been driving for some time without with-out a cap on the radiator. A piece of a small glass tube, such as forms a part of the thermometer fitted into an automobile radiator, was found : near the place of the fatality by a smalt 1 boy and turned in to the sheriff's office 1 yesterday. It will be introduced in evidence evi-dence when the inquest is resumed today. to-day. According to Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Con-net Con-net t, both testified that Deputy McDonald's Mc-Donald's car parsed them as they were driving south on Slate street. Their car was t ravelini? at a speed of eighteen miles an hour, they said, and the roadster which passed them was making about forty miles an hour. Tne driver who struck Mrs. Henderson did not stop and t here was some evidence evi-dence to the effect that he increased his speed. McDonald was overtaken south of Murray by O. Robertson, a chauffeur, wlu said' McDonald told him there "was another roadster ahead of him t raveling at break neck sped. Robertson testified that McDonald suggested that they attempt at-tempt to overtake the roadster. They returned, re-turned, however, although Kohertson testified tes-tified McDonald was not anxious to do so. Mr. and Mrs. Connett were positive it wa.s McDonald who passed them. They said their little boy remarked, "There goes Mac's" car." McDonald lives at Midvale, as do also the Connetts. and was on Ids way home. John C.ilroy, who was Mrs. Henderson's escort, pave a disconnected account of the accident. He said he and he woman were w a lk ing toward Mrs. Henderson's home when the dea th ca r suddenly appeared, ap-peared, struck his companion, turned back on the pavement and was gone. lie explaied that he and Mrs. Henderson Hender-son were not walking on the pavement, but were on a dirt wagon patli to one si tie of the concrete high way. The ei-dence ei-dence was to the effect that the automobile auto-mobile turned to the right instead of the left, as required by law. Sheriff Corless has caused every witness of whom he could learn to be summoned, and the ht ar ing will be continued today. No complaint has yet been issued and County A t torney Richard Ha nley stated that no criminal action against anyone is likely to be instituted until after tho inquest. |
