MINISTER TO , DENMARK RESIGNS Maurice Francis Egan Quits Post Because of 111 Health. WASHINGTON, June 5. Maurice Francis Fran-cis Kgan, United States minister to Denmark, Den-mark, has tendered his resignation to the state department owing to ill-health. The resignation will be accepted. Mr. Egan had been minister to Denmark since June, 1907, when he "was appointed by President Roosevelt. Late lust year he was taken ill in Copenhagen and later underwent an operation. He has been in Washington for several months on leave. Mr. Egan wrote the president that under direction of his physician it would be impossible for him to resume his post within a reasonable time, and therefore, he felt it would be an injustice not to tender his resignation. "It is unnecessary for me to repeat to you my assurances of the pride and gratitude which your continued trust in me has inspired," the letter said, "or to reiterate my desire to serve you in any capacity within my ability." The president in reply expressed the hoper that Mr. Egan's health would be restored soon, and added: "I must not deny myself the pleasure of saying how sincerely I have appreciated appreci-ated the distinguished and highly successful suc-cessful service you have rendered the government, gov-ernment, or of expressing again my personal per-sonal admiration and confidence." |
