The city presents a truly patriotic appearance, ap-pearance, with profuse decorations in the national colors and the purple of the Elks' flags and banners, and business houses and public buildings are profusely decorated In honor of the visit of the B. P. O. E. The decorations have been made under the direction of a committee commit-tee from Provo lodge No. 849, R. tf. Sward, chairman, who has met with generous gen-erous co-operation on the part of citizens. citi-zens. J. H. Denhalter, chairman of the amusement amuse-ment committee, has provided many attractions at-tractions at the Trenches, First West street, between Center and First North streets, and in "No Man's .land," back of the trenches. The first big event .engineered by the amusement committee was the ascension of fifty balloons this afternoon from the "No Man's land" field. Each balloon was named. No. 1 being "The Kaiser," No. 2 "The Crown Prince," etc., and a prize was offered for each balloon captured after af-ter it had fallen. Boys by the thousand were watching the balloons and several were returned. "The Kaiser" was brought in by Clifford Hudson from the swamps of the First ward pasture and he will t receive the capital prize, $20 in thrift stamps, contributed by the banks of the city. There are prizes for each of the other balloons and they (the balloons) must be presented before 6 o'clock tomorrow to-morrow (Thursday) to H. C. Hicks at the office of the Provo Post or at the trenches. This afternoon and evening some interesting in-teresting amusement stunts were pulled off at the big tent on "No Man's land." and they will be continued tomorrow afternoon. af-ternoon. One of them for tomorrow is the finish fight between "Jess Fulton and Fred "Willard." Tomorrow evening the tent will be turned into a banquet hall and the Elks and their guests will be served a trench dinner in mess style. |
