Show DELAYS IN CASUALTY NOTICES EXPLAINED WASHINGTON, June 5. In explanation explan-ation of delays which may occur in the notification to relatives of the wounding wound-ing or death of soldiers in France, the adjutant geLeral's office tonight issued is-sued a statement pointing out that General Gen-eral Pershing at his discretion may withhold casualty lists until positively they have no value for the enemy. Where possible, telegrams are sent relative's within twenty-four hours of the receipt of a casualty report in the United States. Clerical errors, the occasional oc-casional necessity of confirming names by cable, incorrect addresses or the removal re-moval of families, the -statement said, occasionally cause delays on this side. |
