Show 17 SHOPS AFFECTED By STRIKE OF )M Sheet Metal Working Plants Closed Pending Settlement of Demand. About seventeen sheet metal working shops, employing from thirty to thiry-i thiry-i five mechanics, are affected by a strike of sheet metal workers. The latter are out pending settlement of a demand for a raise of wages of $1 per day. Three weeks ago a committee from the local union of sheet metal workers, for the union, demanded an advance in dail' pay for the men of $1, giving the employers em-ployers three week In which to accept. Immediately after the demand was made the Sheet Metal Contractors' association of Salt Lake communicated with the workers, explaining that to raise wages ill cms time wo in a ue m luiauuu ui ah agreement with the government, with which tlie employers 'claim to have agreed not to enter into competi tioif in the matter of wages paid. Besides, according ac-cording to a statement made by a litem -; ber of the contractors" association, there lis a contract in existence between the I union and employers holding to January l t at the present rate of pay per day.
