Show RAILROADJFFICERS Able Men Wanted as Federal Fed-eral Directors; Many Presidents Pres-idents May Be Chosen. WASHINGTON. May 2. The railroad administration today began looking for the most able operating officer of each of the 200 roads under government control con-trol to become federal director of ills line to replace the president as ciitef executive execu-tive for operations. A survey of available men for these positions po-sitions Indicated that many presidents would be chosen, and consequently their companies would have to elect new presidents. presi-dents. General dismay among railroad officers over Director General McAdoo's newly announced an-nounced policy was apparent in inquiries inquir-ies reaching railroad administration headquarters head-quarters concerning the intent of the order. or-der. All inquirers were told that the director general is anxious not to disorganize disor-ganize the existing railway managements any more than necessary to insure a higher degree of co-operation between the government management and the Individual Indi-vidual roads. Practically no officers, executives, ex-ecutives, or employees who contribute to the actual operation of the roads will lose their jobs. These assurances calmed the railway officers, who had feared managements were to be torn up and put together again on a new pattern. There was still considerable con-siderable speculation, however, concerning the salaries to be paid the federal directors, di-rectors, and no definite information concerning con-cerning the director- general's intentions. It was intimated that the present salaries sal-aries of mariv railway heads ranging upward up-ward from $50,000 to $100,000 would not be duplicated by the railroad administration. administra-tion. The salaries would be "adequate," it was stated, and would be of varying sizes comparable to each man's ability and duties. |
