Salt Lake County chapter, American Red Cross, closed its April shipments of finished articles to Mountain division headquarters at Denver with a total of ninety-four standard cases for the month. This was not quite as large as was anticipated antici-pated four weeks ago, but there was a considerable-period of time this month when work was unexpectedly retarded, owhto delay in the arrival of mate- -rtfuT From present indications, taking JT Into consideration the finished articles ready for packing, the known amount of material now in the hands of the workers work-ers and the reasonable assurances of yarn and cut goods with which to supply the branches and auxiliaries, it will be no difficult matter for the local chapter to go "over the top" in May and send to headquarters more than 100 standard cases of articles, with a larger percentage of surgical dressings than ever before. An Inspection of the Clawson gauze roller, made last Saturday by Manager John W. Morey of the Mountain division, Dr. Stockton Axson, national secretary of the American Red Cross, Lawrence C. I Phipps of Denver and several members of the chapter's executive committee, resulted, re-sulted, after a thorough demonstration, in official approval of the device, which will be installed in other ga.uzerooms as soon as manufacturing arrangements can be completed. Officials of the Salt Lake County chap-f chap-f ter desire that attention le again called ,.-.( to the announcement that the organiza-c organiza-c tlon known as the National Surgical .. Dressings Committee of America will disband dis-band May 30, in accordance with the voluntary vol-untary action of the membership, taken several weeks ago. Emphasis is laid upon this statement because of the large number num-ber of calls and inquiries that continue to come into the central office regarding the society. It was officially stated yesterday at headquarters that the chapter has on hand a considerable number of socks, made in accordance with the Red Cross requirements, save that they have not been washed after knitting. In the main, these socks were knit by working girls in odd moments, the knitters having neither time nor opportunity to wash them, and the request is made that someone volunteer volun-teer to do this portion of the work, as the national regulations require that all socks be washed before they are sent on to division headquarters. The supervisor of the surgical dressings dress-ings department desires to again call attention at-tention to the announcement that under instructions from national headquarters, no kits can be accepted by the chapter after the close of office hours today. |
