Show GERMAN EAGLES ARE TAKEN FROM CAPITOL Architect Says the Birds Were No Part of Original Decorative Scheme. Following the order of Governor Bamberger, Bam-berger, the four German eagles which stood on top of the newel posts of the grand marble stairways on the main floor of the state capitol were yesterdav removed re-moved from their conspicuous positions and today Custodian John H. Cook will ! put in tc.eir places four American eagles of accepted patriotic typo. H appears that Architect Richard K. A. Kletting submitted two designs to the capitol commission, on neither of which was an eagle of any kind. One of the designs was sent back to the ma nufac-turers, nufac-turers, who themselves suggested the eagies which later turned out to he of the Prussian type. Mr. Kletting's modest mod-est designs were discarded for that of the manufacturers in New York and at a price between SSO and Slw each in advance ad-vance of what the architect's ornaments, would have cost to execute. Mr. Kletting did not approve the accepted design, because be-cause he did not consider It to be In 1 keeping with the other ornaments in the, building. |
