Following a conference yesterday between be-tween memberd of the state industrial commission and the Manufacturers Association As-sociation of Utah and the state council of defense, a telegram was sent to the bureau of labor of the department of tho interior urging that immediate steps betaken be-taken to establish a federal free employment em-ployment bureau in Salt Lake and Ogden. This telegram was forwarded last night to the bureau by Secretary A. C. Kees oi the Manufacturers association. I The need for such a bureau hero and 1 In O-'den to take care of the serious iaboi problems which must be faced during dur-ing the present year is set forth In the' message and quick action by the federal department is urged. At the conference yesterday it developed devel-oped that the funds for the state free employment bureau have about been exhausted ex-hausted and the state bureau must be closed about March 1 unless some other means of maintaining it are forthcoming. It developed that the Mate bureau has been the means of accomplishing a great amount of good, and it was the sense of all those prtjsnt at the conference that steps should be taken to maintain this important bureau or one in its stead throughout this year, at leat, because of the unusual conditions to be met and the apparent seriousne--9 of the labor problem confronting the farming and in- 1 dustrial interest- of the slate. It was suggested that the federal 1 bureau might make use of the offices in which the state if now conducting its bureau and that when the time comes that the state will have to ceae its work the federal government may take It up and continue it without Interruption. |
