Show Now Claim to Be Enemies. J OMAHA, Jan. 3. A serious menace has developed in answers to the questionnaires ques-tionnaires filed with the Nebraska exemp- 1 tion boards which show thousands of Germans, who have taken out their first papers and, under the Nebraska laws, have been voting for years, have claimed exemption from army service on the ground that they are alien enemies. From Scottsbluff county alone 736 such answers an-swers have been received from men who have been voting regularly. Frank A. . Kennedy, chairman of the First district exemption board, is authority for the statement that literally thousands of "first papers" voters are now claiming to be alien enemies and exempt from j military service. |
