Show GOSHUTES HELD FOR GRAND JURY ACTION Four Indians Placed Under S500 Bond by TJ. S. Commissioner ' ' Van Pelt. I After a preliminary hearing before United States Commissioner Henry V. Van Pelt yesterday morning, John Symes, Jim " Straight, Al Steele and Annie's Tommy, lour Goshute Indians, were held for the action of the federal grand jury on the charge of having entered into a conspiracy to hinder the operation of .the selective 'draft law. They were placed under a bond of $500 each. According to the testimony of L. A. Dorrington, special agent of the interior department in the Indian service, and Amos R. Frank. Indian agent at the Goshute reservation, the Indians had re-"fused re-"fused to register for military service and some of them had declared they would rather die than be drafted. Testimony was alno introduced to show that the Indians In-dians Iiad made an effort to induce other Indians on the reservation not to register. |
