N.EXY YORK. Sept. 16. With nothing but a calamity to prevent the Giants and White Sox from meeting meet-ing In the world's series, the talk in baseball circles today Is on the prospective winner of the stellar title. Dopesters naturally are figuring on the pitchers. They believe that Mcflraw will trv to win with his southpaws. Anil he has three good ones in Sallee. Schupp and Benton. Rowland, however, is not far behind the Giants' leader In this respect. The generalissimo of the White Sox also has three good port slingers in Russell, Williams. and Panforth. The Giants' trio of left-handers have won forty-nine games and loft nineteen thus far. The Chicago pitchers have for-tv-two victories and seventeen defeats. Of this sextette the leading honors go to Sallee and Russell. The former lias won forty-nine games and lost nineteen the latter fifteen out of nineteen. Schupp has wone nineteen and lost seven, Kenton twelve and seven. Williams seventeen and eight and Danforth ten and five. Put Hope in Cicotte. In the right-hander the White Sox have it over the Giants. McGraw has only one starboard flinger on whom he can rely Poll J'erritt. He has won fourteen games and los. seven. Ciootte looms up as Rowland's "one best bet." He has been the best mainstay of the White So.x, having won twenty-five games and lost twelve, and Chicago fans pin their hopes to him to "bring home the bacon." The right-handed twlrlers of the Sox have won Torty-four of their games against twenty-five defeats, while the Giants' right-handers have only turned in forty-four victories I to thirty-seven defeats. de-feats. Tesreau. Anderson and Demaree have been big disappointments, they only winning thirty and losing the same number. num-ber. In Faber and Benz Rowland also has two good right-handers. From a perusal of these figures It can be seen that McGraw must rely on his southpaws to win, as Perritt cannot pitch every game. In the other end of the battery the White Sox have probably the best catcher in either league Ray Schnlk. McGraw will have the use of McCarty In the big series. The latter Is not as good in the receiving lino as the Chicago mitt artist, but he more than overcomes this handicap handi-cap with his slick work. The New Yorker Is batting at an average of .290. while Schalk Is clouting at only a .226 gait. Taking up the infield, each club has one of the strongest combinations to be found in baseball. In batting the Giants' quartette is going at an average av-erage of .264, three points above the Sox experts. Holke. Fletcher and Zimmerman are hitting ahead of Gandil. Rlsberg and Weaver, while Herzog seems to bo the only weak sticker In the outfit, he having averaged only .22j against Eddie Colllns's .295. Struggling Outfield. In the outfield there is little to choose from a hitting standpoint. The Giants boast of two clouters over the .300 mark Burns and Kanff. Felsch is the only White Sox hitting above the coveted mark. He is batting .308. Both Robertson Robert-son and J. Collins are hitting close together, to-gether, the former .262 and the latter .264.
