With five candidates tn the field for a total of five offices, the municipal campaign is expected to develop considerable activity during the present week. Kit her through courtesy or a strategical curiosity, nio.st of those who are looked upon as almost "certain to be eandid.-ua" from the outside have withheld with-held their definite announcements until the elective officers of the present city administration indicated their stand. All four of the city officials whose terms of office expire this year have declared their Intention of seeking re-election. They are Mayor A. R. Hey wood, two-year term mayor-commissioner; Chris Flygare, four-year term commissioner; George S. Barker, municipal judge, two-year term ; and Arthur F. Larson, city audiior. two-year two-year term. The single outside candidate who has already entered the race is John Pingree, .Jr., who will seek the nomination for four-year term commissioner. Although their positive announcements have not been forthcoming", close friends of T. Samuel Browning, former commissioner, commis-sioner, and A. L. Brewer, former mayor, contend that announcement of "their candidacy can-didacy for mayor probably will be made this week. Mr. Browning is almost certain cer-tain to make the race and, while Mr. Brewer Is himself uncertain, many of his friends will urge him during the next few days to become a candidate. The movement on the part of his friends to bring forth A. 1. "Weatberby as a candidate can-didate for mayor-lB by no means stopped, and his definite announcement may be one of the developments of the week. With A. L. Scoville and Samuel G. Dye virtually out of the race for commissioner, there seems to be a shortage of aspirants for the long-term position as successor to Commissioner Flygare. Also the names of possible candidates for municipal judge and city auditor, other than incumbents, have not been mentioned right out loud. |
