Show ICEHIS 10 DBS FEDERAL M FUND Suggestion of Governor Bamberger Is Accepted by Joint Committee. At a joint meeting held jeatenlay in the office of E. R. Morgan, state road engineer, at the state capitol, at which the. roa'ls and bridges committee of both house and senate and members of tho stato road commission were present, pres-ent, approval was given the suggestion of Governor Simon Bamberger that a letter be sent to all county commissioners commis-sioners in the state and to nil state road agents, inviting them to a conference confer-ence to be held 1'ebruarv 5 in Suit Lake. This meeting will he held at the office of-fice of the state road engineer in the capitol commencing at 10 a. m. on that date. In addition to the visitors, members mem-bers of the joint committee of the legislature leg-islature on roads and bridges and members of the road commission will be in attendance. The purpose of this meeting is to secure the ideas of representatives from all sections in the state concerning desirable de-sirable amendments to the present state road law and also inviting any suggestions sug-gestions for new legislation. At vesterday's session discussion was had concerning the distribution of the federal road money. Another matter of importance discussed dis-cussed was the proposal that the position posi-tion of county surveyor and of county road commissioner be abolished, and that there be created instead the office of-fice of couutv road engineer, the incumbent in-cumbent to do the work now being done by the officials whose offices it is proposed to abolish. In this connection it was suggested that examinations be held at stated intervals in-tervals at which candidates for the position po-sition of county road engineers might appear, in order to secure state certificates cer-tificates before being permitted to take up the work in the various counties. This, it was pointed out, would make for more efficient and uniform road work throughout the state. Appreciation was voiced of the importance im-portance of building up the roads in outlying districts not served by railroads, rail-roads, and over which highways the mails are carried. The claims of Duchesne and Vernal and of those desiring de-siring a road to Kauab and also to St. George were fully acknowledged, and whatever policy is adopted, it was stated, stat-ed, would take these districts into serious se-rious consideration for the expenditure of sufficient amounts to insure good traffic conditions. Those prcseut at the meeting, in addition ad-dition to Professor R. K. Lyman, Treasurer Treas-urer David O.
