Show SELLING PRICE OF POTATOES DECLINES K. Hancock of Hancoelc Brothers Received Re-ceived a long distance telephone mes-vanp mes-vanp yesterday morning from Idaho Kails, 'Maho, to the effect that potatoes have sutVered a twenty-five cent decline in the selling price. lie was also told that potatoes were plentiful, but, that 'ears were not available for shipment. Out of an order for eighty cars the jobbers job-bers reported that only three were received. re-ceived. One of the latent causes reported for the shortage of potatoes is the burning of 18,000 barrels of potatoes in an eastern warehouse fire. According to local commission men the principal cause of potato shortage ana consequent conse-quent high prices asked for this product is the tremendous increase in the export ex-port shipments tb European countries. Anxiety has been expressed by the local merchants that in case the eastern east-ern commission houses invade the potato po-tato market of I'tah and buy up all of the tubers they can secure, the result re-sult will be a still higher advance in price locally and a shortage that may prove serious. |
