Show RAIDING PATROLMAN HAS NARROW ESCAPE Gang Caught in Barn Opens Tire on Police in Attempt to Escape Es-cape Arrest. Patrolman Leroy Dean narrowly escaped es-caped death or serious Injury yesterday when a bullet split his club in fragments, i grazed his coat and knocked off ills badge during a spectacular raid on a gang of twenty "crap shooters" in a barn on Third West street late yesterday afternoon. The raiders, consisting of Patrolmen Dean, Pierce, Huist and Minor, swept down on the barn from four different directions, di-rections, and as soon as the officers en- tered members of the gang began firing, j Following the gang outside. Dean . opened fire cn one of the men, who fell . to the ground, but escaped by crawling . to some bushes near by. j The police succeeded In capturing four ! of the members, and lodged them in the ; city jail on charges of gambling. They I are R. A. Fryer, A. Davis, Albert Bailey and William Sessions. Although no weapons were found on the men, several sev-eral oS-oahber cartridges were taken from Session's ro ket. and the police believe that he fired some of the shots and threw the gun away before his capture. |
