Show ID1T REGNANT C1STMSSUBJECT Dr. James H. N. Williams in First Methodist Pulpit for First Time. Dr. James H. N. Williams, the newly appointed minister at the First Methodist church, was greeted by large congregations yesterday and delivered two stirring sermons. ser-mons. His morning theme was, "The Soul's Thirst for God." The evening discourse was based on the text in Revelation, chapter I, verses 12 to IS, and was a discussion of "The Radiant Regnant Christ." In part he said: Johri, who was one of the first followers fol-lowers of Jesus, was in banishment undpr the persecution hy Domitian. While on the rocky isle of Patmos there were given to him wonderful apocalyptic visions. This selected text is a frontispiece to the Book of Revelation. Rev-elation. In his gospel John hod described de-scribed Jesus in his humiliation, scourged by Pilate, "wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe." In this other description the humiliation humili-ation with the habiliments of degradation degrada-tion is gone ' and we have before us the radiont, regnant Christ. Once he wore the crown of thorns and the purple robe. Now "the garments he assumes are light and majestic." He wears the priestly royal robe. He is humanity's leader. He is man's one and only priest. He is man's one and only king. Here he is regnant and royal forever. for-ever. He was once humiliated unto an ignominious death. Now he lives to die no more. Key power to unlock all the treasures of moral conquest throughout the world is his. Key power to open all the wonders and glories of heaven belongs to him. He shall reign forever and ever. |
