Show MURDERER TRIES TO BREAK OUT OF JAIL Girl Convict Involved in Sensational Episode in the Oregon Penitentiary, SAL.FM, Ore., Oct. 8. Willard Tanner, serving a term for murder, and Haze ! Erwin, his accomplice, made a sensational unsuccessful attempt to escape from tiie Oregon penitentiary here today. Tanner, who had been missing for ten days, and was believed to have gotten away., had bored a tunnel through a wall of tiie woman's dormitory, and all that time, it is believed, he had been concealed by tiie Erwin woman in her room. To reach the grounds in front of1 tiie prison, it was necessary to quiet t wo women prisoners and overpower Matron Pope, who carried keys to a door leading to freedom. With the Erwin girl.
