"Young" Peter Jackson, a nesro boxer, and K. J. Oondman are being held in the city jail pending an investigation into the death of O'Lot nell. According to both men, neither had anything any-thing to do with the victim's fall, both sa ylng that O' I Don tied, who had been drinking beer, had siaggoied to an open window and before they realized it had fallen through ii to the pavement below. O'Donnedl's injuries were found by Dr. W. Scott Keyting, city physician in charge of the case, to consist principally of a broken nose, which caused a hemorrhage. hemor-rhage. O'Donnell also suffered a badly bruised scalp and possible internal injuries in-juries in his fall. When Jackson was being taken to the station he said the affair was purely accidental. ac-cidental. "I'm a clean negro," he added. "1 have always fought dean and I have altvays been clean. I did nothing to Mr. O'Oonnell." When told of the death of O'Donnell later, Jackson made no further comment. O'Donnell was picked up from the pavement by Patrolmen Harry Moore and Clifford Patten. He was then unconscious. uncon-scious. They hurried him to the emergency emer-gency hospital, where Dr. Keyting administered ad-ministered an anaesthetic to the man, who was slowly regaining consciousness. O'Donnell rested easy until 11 o'clock, when he started to talk and in a few moments chanted a Catholic prayer. He then asked for a priest, and the Rev. Father Dunn of All Hallows college was called. At no time did O'Donnell talk about the accident, and evaded all questions asked him which pertained to Ihe fall. Bit tie is known of 01 'onnell here. It is believed that he has no immediate family, although the police are hopeful of finding relatives. The body is at the Eber W. Hall mortuary, mortu-ary, where it is likely an autopsy will be performed today. |
