Show Knox Tractor Stands Severe Test ' fr?-.., fc'i'Vi- 7 "v b ' - Hfrv ,i W'.hVs v"7 cop as-tr Lloyd Crouch, tractor demonstrator, of the Utah-Idaho Motor company, local distributors of the Knox tractor, makes 1 important demonstration with a model 36 Knox tractor. The upper picture shows the tractor negotiating a heavy gTade with a thirty-ton load, whi le the lower picture shows the towing winch in operation. To realize tho tremendous power, tlie indefatigable endurance, irresistible force and undaun table courage, one must see a model 3(5 Knox tractor coupled cou-pled to four heavy trailers loaded down with gravel start out to make its deli de-li very. It is doubtful if a more interesting demonstration could be imagined than that made by Lloyd Crouch with a Knox tractor in Salt Lake couuty yesterday. ! Crouch undertook to show "just exactly! what the Knox tractor would do under, practical and ordinary conditions, and the result was more 'than satisfactory to all who witnessed this remarkable demonstration. The Knox tractor was coupled to the four trailers, which were loaded down with gravel and were standing in deep gravel nits at the time. The tractor was obliged to bring these trailers around a sharp bend and up a steep grade before gaining the main roadway, and, impossible as the feat appeared, it was easily accomplished by the sturdy Knox 3b". Including the weight of the trailers, the load drawn by the tractor in this demonstration was over thirty tons, and witnessos of tho demonstration also observed ob-served that the roads negotiated were in verv poor condition. T"o illustrate the practical value of the towing winch, which is an important impor-tant piece of the Knox tractor equipment, equip-ment, when a sharp bend in the road, which at this point was directly on the steepest part of the grade, had been reached, the tractor was unhooked from the trailer and run up the road about fifty yards, when the towing winch cable ca-ble was roleased and taken back, where it was coupled to the four trailers. Then one of the most interesting parts of the demonstration began. Standing still in the middle of the road and braced only with its hydraulic brakes, the sprag not being pressed into service at all during the demonstration, the Knox tractor began drawing the four trailers up to it,' seemingly without the slightest effort. Steadily and smoothly the heavily heav-ily loaded' trailers were brought up to tfte tractor, when the brakes were set and the tractor recoupled to tb'e trailers again. This demonstration of the tow- ing winch was a very important one, ; and illustrated the remarkable service ; that such an equipment can render in , an emergency. "It was a remarkable and very successful suc-cessful demonstration throughout, and all who witnessed it were satisfied with the unequal ed efficiency of the model 36 Knox tractor,'' said C. A. Eastman, sales manager of the truck department of the Utah-Idaho Motor company, local distributors of the Knox tractor, "and we ourselves are more than pleased with the results of this test, as it gives us a practical working knowledge of exactly ex-actly what this tractor can accomplish. It was not really an exhibition test it was a practical example of what a tractor trac-tor would be called upon to do day after day, week after week and month after month under ordinary conditions and circumstances.
