Show SAY MINISTER TOOK BRIBE FROM WOMAN Police Break Doors In as California Divine Di-vine Takes Money From Resort Keeper. RICHMOND, Cal., June 17. Friends j of the Rev. Paul Edward Petersen, charged with accepting a bribe from a woman keeper of a disorderly house, rallied today to the minister's defense, asserting that his arrest was the result re-sult of a conspiracy. It was announced that a mass meeting of the Good' Government Gov-ernment League of Richmond, of which the Rev. Petersen is president, would be called Monday night to initiate a recall movement against Thomas D. Johnston, district attorney of Contra Costa county, who is directing the prosecution of Dr. Petersen. The minister was released today to-day in $4000 bonds. The Rev. Petersen said today that the woman simply laid the money on the table, ta-ble, $50 of it as a gift to the church and $20 as a personal offering. He said he had not accepted it when the officers broke in upon the scene. |
