Show 2 RAILWAYS EARN BIG , OPERATING INCOME Interstate Commerce Commission Issues Report Which Makes Comparisons With Other Periods. WASHINGTON, June 17. More than $1,000,000,000 in operating income will be earned by the railways of the United Unit-ed States for the year ending this month. An interstate commerce commission report re-port today showed that during the ten months ending with April operating revenues of the roads amounted to $2,-797,817,962, $2,-797,817,962, indicating' a total of approximately ap-proximately $3,360,000,000 by the end of the fiscal year, and operating expenses ex-penses were $1,82 ,816,880, indicating a total of about $2,208,000,000 for the year. Net revenue from railway operations during the ten months was $1170,001,082, but deductions for tax accruals and uncollectible un-collectible revenues brought the recorded operating income to $848,542,135. Operating Oper-ating income per mile of road was $3703 for the ten months, compared with" $2600 in the same period last year. In the eastern district the operating income per mile was $6335, compared to $6019. last year's period; in the southern south-ern district $2817, compared with $1876, . and in the western district $2783, com- f pared with $2180. |
