Show Ml IIP i SHORT UBEFiSHED Railway Officials Report Excellent Progress Made in Betterments. The inspection trip of the Oregon Short Lino system, which began October Oc-tober 31, when officials boarded a special spe-cial train and viewed progress en route from the open end of an observation car placed in front of an engine, was concluded yesterday when the party reached Salt Lake City. The inspection inspec-tion was taken part in by all the officials of-ficials of the railroad. According to Vice President and General Gen-eral Maungcr II. V. Piatt, the annual inspection trips have .been eliminated for the last three or four yearH, as the earnings of the road would not justify justi-fy the expense of keeping up the property prop-erty to a point where an inspection was justified. "But with these better times," said Mr. Piatt, "we expect to return to the premium system of recognizing recog-nizing those who have direct charge of our property and keep it In the best physical condition. We hope that the present prosperous conditions will continue to justify improvements im-provements and a higher state of efficiency ef-ficiency than has been possible in the last two or three years. 'While the property is above the average, there ore many refinements and improvements contemplated which will result in leaving leav-ing a good deal of money throughout the section traversed by the Oregon Short Line, entirely separate from additional addi-tional amounts oi money to be disbursed dis-bursed in wages paid employees." The conclusion of the inspection trip was signalized last night by a dinner partv given at the Alta club by Vice President and General Manager H. V. Piatt, followed by a theater party at tho Orpheum theater. Among those who enjoyed the dinner and performance were G- L. Hickey, assistant to vice president and general manager; F. H.
