Show i I NEARLY READY TO DIG. Oflden and Lewleton Sugar Factories to Take Beets In Ten Days. Special to The Tribune. OGDEN. Aug. 31. With the Intention Of placing the Ogden and Lewiston factories fac-tories In operation about September 10, I he Amalgamated Sugar company has is-aued is-aued the first orders for the digging of beets. The farmers of the two districts will begin the annual beet harvest next week. The Logan and Burley sugar factories fac-tories will not be placed In operation for the season until about September 15, according ac-cording to present plans. There is also some question at this time as to whether the other two plants cap be operated on September 10, owing Id a shortage of water. According to Fred G. Taylor, secretary of the com-pariy, com-pariy, four second-feet are required at '.- local plant ami the supply at present pres-ent i considerably below that amount. I'fvld representatives of the company are giving the water question their attention. atten-tion. Pue to the prolonged dry spell while the beet a were maturing, the tests of the 1915 crop show an average saccharine content of 13 per cent, compared to 15 per cent in former years. There probably will he a sufficient increase in the tonnage, due to greater area planted In beets, to make up the deficiency. |
