Show CONCRETE HIGHWAY DECEIVES SUPPORT C. E. Bardwell Believes Congress Should Make Big Appropriation. C. E. 'Bardwell of Lincoln, Neb., who. with his daughter. Miss Harriet, is a guest of W. H. Korns, speaks enthusiastically enthusias-tically of the plan to concrete the Uncoln highway from ocean to ocean, by the people direct where prosperity warrants It, by congressional aid where the coun-I coun-I try is sparsely settled. Mr. Bardwell has : been spending the summer on the Pa-cific Pa-cific coast, and stopped here on the way home, in discussing yesterday the plan for making the Uncoln highway a concrete con-crete road he said: In the eastern portion of Nebraska and in all the territory east of the Missouri river, the population and prosperity of the people will amplv warrant the concreting of the highway high-way In their territory, but through the long stretches in Wyoming, where few persons reside, and across the desert sections of Utah and Nevada, we realize it will be necessary to extend ex-tend aid, and when I get homo I shall bring this question to the attention of our congressmen and senators. It Is not in any regard a matter of local concern to any one of the three sta'.es I have mentioned, because there are few residents in these long reaches of desert, but It Is now and will become more and more important impor-tant to our people of tht middle west and those farther east who will choose to cover the countrv by auto rather than by rail. Asked if he had In mind the use of the proposed concrete highway ae a miHtarv road. Mr. Bardwell replied that ho had not thought of it in that respect, but could see no objection to having the highway high-way brougbj into military use In case of necessity, "in fact." he said, "since it is mentioned, I believe that such a highway high-way ought to be constructed with the object in view of converting it into a military mili-tary road should occasion require, and it Is my opinion that congress will readily see the Importance of building a permanent perma-nent all-year-round transcontinental road." Mr. Bardwell lias In Salt Take a large circle -f neighbors and friends from Ne-braska, Ne-braska, whom he is always glad to meet and note their prosperity. |
