Show RESTRICTION HELPS RELIEVE SHORTAGE Confining Lawn Sprinkling to Three Days Each Week Adds to Reservoir Supply. With the reservoirs filled as a result of there having been no sprinkling allowed al-lowed on Monday, the city's water supply held up fairly well yesterday, justifying the expediency of the water officials in confining sprinkling to three days a week. Pressure was not diminished in any appreciable degree, but the heavy consumption con-sumption yesterday, when sprinkling was allowed, reduced the water In the reservoirs reser-voirs to a minimum. There are now about 22,000,000 gallons daily coming Into the system, including some additional water from the lakes in Big Cottonwood canyon obtained from private owners for a period of twenty days. It is the confident hope of the water officials that the weather man will relent in the meantime and break the drought. Fifth outh street reservoir is completed, com-pleted, but no water has been available for filling H as yet. When this is filled it will help out considerably. In order to eliminate all unnecessary drain on the system, the street department depart-ment has reorganized Its methods of sprinkling and flushing the streets so as to use only canal and irrigation water. Some of the sprinkling wagons have been equipped with gasoline pumps for raising rais-ing tho water out of the canals and in some parts of the city stationary pumps have been erected along the banks of canals and ditches. |
