Show NAT M BRIGHAM for i merly U S marshal in Utah, who died yesterday in Hamilton Ohio FORMER IIS OF HI IS DEAD Nat M Bngham Was Well known and Popular m Territory Thousands of people throughout Utah and other western statea were grieved yesterday when the news came over the Assocla ed Press wires that -at M Brig ham former United States marshal of Utah had dropped dead in Hamilton, Ohio Mr Brighajii was appointed marshal of the territory of Utah by President Grover Cleveland and took office on July 1, 1893 He served a full term and was exceeding ly popular Mr Brig ham was possessed of a wonderful tenor voice and for a. time p ecedlng his appointment as mar shal for Utah appeared in light opera. Howe er he was not in eympa hy with a stage career and refused offers of large salary to go upon the stage permanentlv Hundreds of Salt Lakers will remember his appearances at the Salt Lake theater in amateur dramatics and his wonderful rendition of poems and songs. Perhaps h a greatest hit was Ln James Whltcomb Rile a famous poem T"here little girl don t cry Tou have broken jour doll I know When Mr Bngham recited this poem at the Salt Lake theater upon the occasion of a famous amateur production, the house simply went wild and he was forced to reappear many times. It is said that Just preceding his appo ntraent as United Statea marshal for Utah Mr Brig ham was offered the highest solan ever offered an amateur s nger if he would Blgn a five ear contract to go on the stage, but he declined After lea tng the tnlted States marshals mar-shals office. Mr BTigham vent to the Grand Cannon of the Colorado and took hundreds of lews after which I e ar ranged a lecture The first lecture was given In the alt Lake theater and proved popular He had been gtving this lecture and others of a similar nature up to the time of his death. While a res dent of Salt Lake Mr Brig ham married Mrs. Lueila Cobb Young who is a s ster of Mrs. L A Clayton E-K. E-K. Cobb and I Cobb. At the time of h s death Mr Brigham was a resioent of Boston where his wife and daughters are now res id ng The Tribune last night received the following special telegram from Hamilton Ohio concerning Mr Brigham s sudden death Nathaniel M Brigham Chautauqua lecturer dropped dead In the pasen ger station of the Cincinnati Ham i ton & Dayton this morning just as he had purchased a ticket for Yellow Springs Ohio where be was to ha e lectured tonight Mr Brigham came to Hamilton and del vered his lllus trated lecture on The Grand Can yon of the Colorado Sunday n ght, as the closing number of the Hamilton Chautauqua, and was apparently in the best of health up to the time he entered the depot Mr Brigham was born in Mas-a chu setts March lo6 and va graduated from the Natick Mats-high Mats-high school Phil ps Dxeter academ New Hampshire and Harvard unl er Bltv with former President Roose velt.
