Show BRITISH REPORTS SAY LOST GROUND HAS BEEN RETAKEN j LO.VnON. Aug. 9, 8:30 p. m. Sir John' Frencu, comma ndor in chief of the British forces in France, reports thut the lost trenches at Hooge. oast of Vpres. in Belgium, Bel-gium, have been retaken by the British troops a nd tliat thev have advanced on a front of I2n0 yards. The statement of Field Marshal French says: , Since my communication of August 1 the artillery on both sides has been active north and east of Ypres. In these exchanges the advantage has been with us. This morning, after a successful artillery ar-tillery bombardment, in which the French on our left co-ouerated effectively, effec-tively, we attacked the trendies at Hooge. captured by the enemy on Juh 30. These were all retaken, and, following up this success, we made further proirress north and west of Hooe. extending the front of the trenches captured to 1200 yards. During this fighting our artillerv shell vd a German train at Lance-marck Lance-marck (five miles northeast of Ypresl. derailing and setting fire to five trucks. The captures reported amounted to three officers and 124 men of other ranks and two machine guns. |
