Show CITY OBTAINS MORE iter mm Water Department Officials Believe Difficulty Has Been Overcome. By an" exchange agreement with J. H. Moyle and others owning water rights in Big Cottonwood stream, the city water wa-ter and engineering officials arranged yesterday to obtain an additional supply sup-ply of water from that creek sufficient, it is believed, to tide the city over the worst part of the present shortage. Arrangements were made Thursday night by which an additional flow of about 1,000,000 gallons daily was obtained ob-tained from Cottonwood, and by the negotiations now under way, it 13 expected ex-pected an additional 1.30ou00 gailous can be assured for the remainder of the drv season. The additional water is to come from the lakes in the head of Big Cotton- . wood can von, where the city is now building dams for the storage of surplus sur-plus winter water. Some surplus has accumulated already in Twin lakes and Lake Mary owing to the progress on the dams, and this, together with some of the regular lake water, owned by private individuals, is to be turned down the creek as needed. It is estimated esti-mated bv the city engineer that 02,500,-000 02,500,-000 gallons can be taken from the lakes. This will be distributed over the season of shortage according to the needs of the city, probably at the rate of about 2,000.000 g.illons a dav. These measures for the relief of the water shortage began to be felt yesterday yester-day when an increased pressure was recorded. re-corded. Strict sprinkling regulations also have relieved the situat ion somewhat, some-what, and water officials are confident that the trouble can be handled from now on. |
