Aug. l.V-The Cincinnati i tub of the National lengue will be sold to Warren X. Carter, a wealthy resident of Pasadena, Cal., according to the Chi-ao Chi-ao Herald. The paper understands that Charles Bnltman of Cincinnati bad been given authority by the owners of the tlub to negotiate the deal. Has Thirty-day Option. PASADENA, Cal., Aug. 13. Warren N. Carter, city trustee of South Pasadena, Pasa-dena, fonfirmed today a report that he 1 was interested in a deal to acquire ownership own-ership of the Cincinnati Nationtl league ; baseball club. "1 have a thirty-day option on the I'lub," said Mr. Carter. "I will decide in a week whether I shall exercise the opt ion. ' ' Mr. Carter refused to state the amount involved, but intimated that it approximated $1,000,000. "The transaction, ' ' said Mr. Carter, i ' contemplates purchase- of exclusive ownership of the elub, mea nine franchise, fran-chise, park and property of every description. de-scription. ' I r. Carter said he proo ured the option op-tion from the owners of the Cincinnati club while he was on a visit to his old home in Cincinnati two weeks ago. Aug. 33 Whether the Cincinnati baseball club will change bauds or remain in the hands of its present pres-ent stockholders will probably be decided decid-ed by next Tu.dav. ' ' When Warren X. I told him I would consider the matter and confer with some of the stockholders and let him know later. At a subsequent meeting. I told him it could be arranged, and he then asked me if I thought he could obtain the controlling con-trolling interest in the club and I told him he could if he were willing to pay the price asked. He f-aid he would like i to consider it two weeks or a month. It 1 will be a month next Tuesday since the conversation took place. Round Figure Asked. "There was a figure named during our conversation, but at that time I did not consider it in the form of an option, although I believe that the figure is correct and that Mr. Carter or anyone else, who, after investigation, we find to be all right could purchase the controlling con-trolling interest in the club for the amount. "It is purely a business proposition and does not mean that we desire to sell the Cincinnati club. If Mr. Carter purchases pur-chases the club for the amount named it will mean a handsome revenue for those who desire to sell, as well as a good thing for those who remain in the club. Garry to Hold Job. "After this conversation Mr. Carter left town, and I have not heard from him nor 6een him since, therefore I was freatly surprised today when I was in-ormed in-ormed that he had made a statement that he had an option on the controlling interest of the club. "Furthermore, if the. club is sold to Mr. Carter the condition was made that would remain at the head of the club and that the rlub would remain in the National league.' Mr. Herrmann stated further that he has knowledge that persons who had no authority had offered the controlling interest, in-terest, in the club for sale to the Federal Fed-eral league. He said there was abso-lutelv abso-lutelv no chance for the club being in anv league other than the National. |
