Show TWO LITTLE GIRLS DROWNED If. WEBER Were Out on Picnic With Their Ward Organization; Waded Beyond Depth. Special to The Tribune. OGDEX, Aug. 12. The second drowning- to occur in Ogden this year happened hap-pened today in the Weber river when two little girls, .Tanuess Childs, 13 years of age, and Bessie Palmer, 15 years of age, sank below the river's surface and were drowned within five minutes. The drowning brought a tragedy into a picnic party of the Beehive girls, a ward organization of which the two children were members. The picnickers picnick-ers were wading in the river a block nbovo the "Riverdale bridge. AH were warned not to venture boyond a. certain ,. spot in the river, where the waters had ( washed out a large hole. ;, Suddenly and without warning tho j: two little' girls walking hand in hand ! were heard to scream and seen to sink beneath the water's surface. Not. a membe.r of the entire party could swim. While Mrs. Ida Ritter, one ! of the chaperons, and other members of i the party endeavored to rescue the chilli chil-li dren with the aid of long poles others ! , ran to the home of E. Carlson, a half t mile distant, for assistance. Mr. Carlson, diving in the river, brought up the two bodies within fif-: fif-: teen minutes after they sank. All ! efforts at resuscitation were fruitless, i however. The bodies were removed to i a near-by farm house and later to the i Larkin undertaking establishment here. ' The two children were the daughters ! of H. H. Childs and Tracy Palmer both 1 i neighboring residents of Riverdale. |
