A MINIATURE bicycle having a ten-inch wheel, ten-inch frame and twenty-gear is the 'vehicle which is paying for the trip of 11. A. Tipper of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, around the world. Tipper is now on the last leg of his journey and is stopping in Salt Lake for a few days. Yesterday ho gave a demonstration demonstra-tion of his small machine on the streef. and showed his ability to control it and ride rapidly in spite of the fact that ho is more than six feet tall and weighs ISi pounds. Ho can do a number of "stunts" on the small wheel, including carrying a man on his back, turning at slow speed on a narrow sidewalk or making good speed. Ho claims that ho once made a quarter mile in 1:42 on the "baby bike," Tipper started from Australia December De-cember 22, 1908, with only $7 in his pocket. Ho made a bet of $500 with friends that he could go around the world and pay for the trip with demonstrations dem-onstrations on his. toy machine and by racing with a regular sized bicycle He was given seven years to do it and expects ex-pects to complete the job in five years. So far his small machine has provod a money-maker and ho has had numerous numer-ous engagements on vaudeville stages and as an advertising -medium for storos. From Salt Lake he will go to San Francisco and from there to his native soil. |
