Not many .yearn ;lpo i)lc puMic school eystem of Weber county consisted of a few scattering; ungraded schools with small unmodern bulldlnijs. Today tho system has been developed until there aro twenty school buildings In tho county. coun-ty. Of this number, only one nchool Is ungraded nnd live of the buildings consist con-sist of their original two rooms. The buildings which havo hvn creeled during tho past fw years are fullv a.s modern as those to lie found In Ogden ilty. although not ao large. Tho students stu-dents throughout, the county arc taken through thc eighth grado before leaving thc country schools, after which thoy arc urged to enter the Ogden high uehool-Four uehool-Four teachers were added to the MhL of InBt.rue.tors this year, making a total of I sixty-seven employed. It Is believed by Superintendent. W. N. Petterson that an Improved teaching corps has been scoured for the present nchool year, this being largely duo to the fact that tho local board of education works In harmony with the stalo board and employes only those teachers who havo been granted a certificate by tho stalo educational body. Tho school census for 1912 fihowed that .'5351 children of school ago rcildo within the county outside of Ogden '-Uy. A very satisfactory percentage of these arc al-tcndlng al-tcndlng the uehools. During tho first month of thc present, school year there was a alight decrease in attendance ln comparison to Iho same month of J 911. but this was due to tho late harvest. The second mouth has shown an Increase over thc same period last year. Ono of tho modern systems put into operation by Superintendent Petterson this year was the assignment of teachers teach-ers to visiting days. l-3y this system every teacher in thc county schools is given an opportunity to inspect and pass upon tho work in hor own lino which is being accomplished in other schools. Uy this system tho superintendent is enabled to ascertain the advanced Ideas or dcliclcncy possessed by each Instructor. During thc closing months of tho last school year the superintendent visited every school in thc county and conducted a personal examination ln thc grammar grades. lie also. conducted a personal examination ex-amination of the 153 students graduated from tho county schools last year. The principal improvement In the building build-ing line during 1912 was the addition of four rooms to the Roy school, making it a six-room building. This was accomplished accom-plished at a cost of $10,000. Improvements Improve-ments aggregating an expenditure of S2000 were made at thc Plain City. A est Weber and Hooper schools. All three buildings were repaired and equipped with steam-healing systems. Ak fast as thc finances will permit, tho hoard of education Is replacing the old hot-air heating syslema in .the school buildings with modern steam plants. -."r?-,8hMi,,,.B a,,d lho arfso In that occllon wi 1 be greatly lnere:icd in 1013. ,tu ?5len factory was the first built ... 1. ?
