Show ZIQN FANCIER CALLS BLUFF OH BOH Judge Says Ring Lady Showed No Speed Qualities; Is a Waterloo Winner. The American Field says: IH "H. R. Elliott, the Salt Lake City coursing man, had to bo In New York during the dog show and. to add to his own Interest In tho affair, entered ono of his greyhound puppies, so as to be In it right. Well, the puppy did not win. and they told Mr. J2UIott that tho puppy wasn't built right for speed and endu- 1 ranee. Of course, it was only a young-ster; young-ster; still, he was considered good enough IH to be represented In the National Futur- IH tty: Mr Elliott was send.lng him to Kan- 1 sas to be conditioned ' for that event. H After learning that the greyhounds which 1 had been placed over him at New York would probably be shown at Buffalo, Mr. , Elliott wired for tho great coursing bitch, Ring Lady, which won the Waterloo cup two years ago and tho Waterloo pur33 ' last vear. Klntr Iadv showed up all right, Mr. Elliott led her into the ring, and again uho was beaten, and again ' 1 he was told that slic was not built right, and that tho othor dogs, by reason of their superior conformation, could run rings around her for a thousand. That 1 was just what Mr. Elliott was waiting for. Ho was thero with tho dog and 1 there with tho thousand, but thero was nothing doing." Dr. J. E. Dc Mund Judged the grey-hounds grey-hounds at the recont Buffalo show, and when ho turned down Ring Lady, claim-lng claim-lng she was not built right for speed, he probably made the biggest mistake of his judging career. When Rips Lady won the Waterloo cup here two years ago sho was without doubt the fastest animal In the United States. After a dog gets through running all tho heats necessary to got into the 'final for a Waterloo, there can be no question as to speed. It Is true that Ring Lady Is be-low be-low tho standard size for greyhounds. but she is as pretty as a picture, and is built In proportion. The bitch was brought here by Sam Han by and wati nominated for the Waterloo by B. F. Redman and 1L R. Elliott, and before the contest could have been purchasod for 35. After winning thu cup $1500 was refused for Ring Lady. Another Salt Lake dog that has made them all sit up and tako notlco Is Charllo Clow's Oqulrrh's Colonel. This dog tied the Wolf for tho Waterloo cup and In the run-oft the Wolf was given the race, but It was clalmc'd by all the dog fanciers that it was an unfair decision. Thoso who have seen Oqulrrh's Colonel say th ' the dog Is the finest specimen of grey-hound grey-hound in the world at the present time. |
