Show Bill DEliO U ihtim mbb Fancy Prices Are Paid for Fine Registered .Stock for Racing. Tribune Special Sporting Service, NEW YORK. April 17. The. demand .for trotting horses apparent ly keeps at higher figures as the training and racing season approaches, tho sale reports re-ports showing from all parts of the country that higher prices ruled in recent ' sales than .late in the fall or during the winter. The prosperous showing of trotting horse sales is not confined to the east. I west or south, as has been the rase t in the past, for reports from the Pacific Pa-cific coast are equally encouraging ami demonstrate beyond all doubt that, the future of harness racing in that section sec-tion of the country looks prosperous and bright enough for horsemen to invest in-vest heavily in prospective winners, while the demand for breeding stock is just as brisk. Ono of the biggest, sales of the year was recently held at Pleasant on. Gal., in which. the feature consignment was . from the Nutwood Stock farm, the J home of the noted hire. Nutwood Wilkes, and the result of the first day, of which an authentic report, has j reached east, shows that the general average was $-l"0 per head sold. As in the case of other sales there, j too. the demand for well-bred young- j 5ters properly engaged in futurities, of which there are several for Pacific coast I bred horses, the demand was as brisk j and prices ruled equally high. A number num-ber of youngsters sold trom $oG00 down to the '$1000 mark, while brood mares, brought as much as they would anywhere any-where else. ! This steady increase of demand for i trotters at advance prices is a certain indication for the success of the sales scheduled for next month and still closer to the racing and training season. The two sales to be held under the management of the Fasig-Tipton coin-company, coin-company, will draw, as they have in Kcadville, also one b- the Chicago Sales pany. one in Cleveland and another in .'he past, a number of racing prospects, I from winter and spring training quar- j tors, and all are expected to become i record events, judged by the demand in I the near past. j The sales will open right in the I midst of t raining and breeding seasons i and the offerings will find readier buy- ers and higher prices than in the for- . mer events of the year. I Advanced report's from training sta- j bios show that few of the leading trainers train-ers have enough trotters and pacers for the season's training and racing, consequent! v they will be first on the I market to grab up almost anything and everything which looks a likely prospect" pros-pect" for something worth the trouble and expense of training. Nearly all of the stakes, both for j Grand Circuit and smaller chains of ! meetings, are now announced, and the total amount, offered is so much larger than in former years that horsemen, I particularly active trainers, will be i anxious to" secure material enough from I which to select their winners at a higher cost than in the samo sales of previous years. |
