Cal., 3'6stcrda3, may .have had something to do with the crime, tho police today are investigating the shooting shoot-ing of Billy O'Brien, a well-known East Side character, in front f Steve Pro-die's Pro-die's saloon on tho "Bowery early today. to-day. O'Brien was shot through the hoart and died instantly. The man who tired the fatal shot escaped. It was at first believed the murder was the rc-! rc-! suit pf a quarrel, but when it was learned that O'Brien was known to bo a witness in the shooting of Joe Keilly in Pell street in 1005, in connection with which Adelson is reported to have been arrested yesterday in Pasadoha, t'hc authorities turned their attention to this phase of the case. The-report became be-came known along the Bowery and O'Brien's probablo appearance as a witness wit-ness against Adelson avos freely talked about in the resorts. O'Brien had had a dispute with a man and a woman in one of the resorts and is said to have struck the woman. When ho left tho place some time afterward he was shot down, his assailant, escaping through an alloy. Pour men were detained by the police po-lice today in connection with tho killing of O'Brien. Three of them were Now Yorkers and tho fourth crave his name as Patrick Donovan of Whitman, Mass. Donovan told the police that he was near by when the shooting occurred and saw the murderer run away. Donovan was later held "with Joseph Juchnowresky, one of the irion arrested, in $1000 bail to await, tho inquest. |
