ALCOHOLIC DEMENTIA MAKES WOMAH A FURY Mary Ferguson Almost Defeats the Efforts of Four Law Officers. Mary Ferguson, alias Nellie Richards, alias Mary Roe, suffering from alcoholic dementia, broke into tho city Jail for the third time within as many days Sunday. Screaming and raving like a demon, tho violently Insane woman was taken Into custodj- by Sorgeant Hempel in front of tho Daly hotel, 22 East Third South street, about 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon. aft-ernoon. Tho woman screamed and fought Sergeant Hempel and he was compelled com-pelled to call for assistance lo subdue her. Policemen Conyers, Hilton and Wilkinson rushed to his aid and the four finally lodged the domented woman In a cell at the city Jail. There she suffered another violent attack at-tack and pounded her head against the wall with such force as to batter two holes In tho plastering and Inflict severe bruises upon her head. Her self-violence made it necessary to place her In a padded cell for fear she might beat out her brains. The woman first broke into the police limelight a year ago by becoming violently vio-lently Insane from heavy drinking. Then sho said she was a domestic, but the pollco claim she Is married and has four children. Friday Policeman Stains arrested ar-rested her In ono of her rampages, after a desperate fight, In which aho toro his badge away, and placed her In jail, but sho gained release by furnishing $5 ball. In a few hours she was returned to Jail, beastly drunk, but was let go after becoming be-coming sober. She was arrested for the third tlmo Sunday afternoon and her ball fixed at $25 to keep her In custody until she recovers from tho attack of alcoholic dementia. Sho Is about I'D years old.
