Show ONE LIFE LOST AS RESULT OP A FIRE As the result of tho department of tho central fire station on ISast First South street being called out at 3:07 o'clock Thursday afternoon to a small fire, which started in some building material In one of the Xewhousc buildings, opposlto the postofflce, there waa one loss of life. Dashing down the street at full speed, the chemical engine, the horses being driven by Edward Androws, ran over a small dog, which ran out from the sidewalk side-walk to bark at the rapidly moving fire vehicle. The dog did not evidently reckon that the piece of fire apparatus was moving so fast and did not allow time enough to pass In front of It. so was caught under the wheels and Its life Instantly In-stantly crushed out. The lire department was called out by telephone, but when It arrived tho fire had been put out. It was In a pile of building material on the first floor of tho north building, and It Is thought started from some person dropping a lighted match. The run to the scene of the blaze was tho first made by tho new horse, which has been broken In to pull a third of the load of the aerial truck. Although the new horse was a little slow In getting under the harness he gave proof that with a little more training he will make an excellent ex-cellent fire horse. |
