Show GUS HOLMES RETURNS I fill;,! EUROPEAN TRIP Frank Knox, Who Accompanied Hi in, Held in East; Conditions Condi-tions Observed. Gus Holmes, proprietor of the Knuls-ford Knuls-ford hotel, returned Thursday from a two months' trip to ICurope. Accompanied Accom-panied by Frank Knox, president of the National Bank of the Republic, Mr. Holmes left Sail, Lake City for a visit in southern Europe. Their trip was cut a little short because busiucss called Mr. Knox back to Americn. Mr. Holmes remained in Now York for about a woek and then returned to Utah. While Mr. Holme? thoroughly enjoyed en-joyed his trip through southern Europe and his short stay in the financial centers cen-ters of the Fast, he nevertheless declared de-clared that he was glad to get back home bnck to the West. "Tho West is the section," declared Mr. Holmes, "in which the people of tho country center their hopes for n speedy return to normal conditions." Conditions in lhe Fast were found to be much improved over those encountered encoun-tered when tho trip to Europe was i made. Money is more plentiful. People are anxious 6t invest their money. but i they are more careful in placing it in some enterprises than they were before tho laf.o financial stringency. The financial finan-cial centers are, deeply interested in mining and their conversation usually turns to the Utah and Nevada properties proper-ties that havo become known throughout through-out the country. The whole country now presents :t much more hopeful front and optimism cl1aracleri7.es the situation, which so short a time ago looked so dark and gloomy. While traveling through Europe. Mr. Holmes met manj people, from Utah and many more who were deopb interested in-terested in the State. The return trip from Europe was one of Hir"roughest encountered during the present, vear. Mr. Holmes and Mr. Knox returned on the new Cunard liner Mauritania. The sea was extremely bad. Their boat "was somewhat delayed, but other boats making the same trip did not arrive in New Vork until two or three days after the Mauritania. Mr. Knox remained in the Fast, to complete business which required immediate im-mediate attention. |
