AT CLOSE OF THE DAY IT IS VOTED A SUCCESS Hereafter It Is Purposed to Make Such Visits an Annual An-nual Event. Ono day each spring will bo set aside for them to como . to the. university to inspect the work as it is carried on. The fort members of this vcars's graduating class from the Ogden high school were tho first to appear on the campus. They wcro followed soon after af-ter by a large' delegation from tho Snow academy of Jiphraim and American Fork. Utah county had more than ono hundred, while an equal number came from the surrounding counties. During tho morning thev wero shown through tho library building and into the various vari-ous class rooms. The work being done iu the art department was clearly shown lo thorn. They wero also taken through the law and medical libraries and the nature of the work prescribed in these depart monls demonstrated. At 11.30 special exercises wero held in tho iissembly hall, which was filled to tho doors by visitors and students. Tho University" Glee, club gave several selections in its usual pleasing style. President ,J. T. Kingsbury then talked on the connection between the high schools and the university. He explained ex-plained the work prcscrilftd and the advantages ad-vantages for carrying fcheso out hero at home rather than taking il away. Tho feeling of tho university for them and their schools had changed radically during dur-ing tho past few 'years, for which all should bo hcartil' thankful, it being for tho best. lie was followed by President Itich-ard Itich-ard W. Voting, .Ir., of tho Associated students. Professor Maud Babcock gavo two dejighlful recitations. Tho choir and the quarlotto Ihon rendered scvornl fine selections. Al noon all adjourned ad-journed to the physical culturo building, build-ing, where a fine lunchoou had been prepared pre-pared by the dean of the collcgo women, Miss Van Cott. This consisted of several kinds of sandwiches, scalloped beef and salmon, milk, ico cream and fruit. The students were then taken through I ho various laboratories and tho mill. The work done in the shops and foundry foun-dry also was shown to them. The Girls' Gym club gavo them an exhibition of fancy drill and corrective work. This was followed by a matinee dance and a baseball game and a track work-out. The preps lined up against, ihe 'varsitv for twenty minutes. Tho score stood at the end S to 0 in favor of 'the col-lego col-lego team. The track was heavv, so that no regular programmo wasj followed fol-lowed in the events. Hunt ran the high hurdles hi record time and wont over the twenty-foot mark in tho broad jump. Captain Neil-eon Neil-eon showed them how to take low hurdles. hur-dles. -Bailey ran a fast, half-mile, whilo Alley for his regular workout took tho mile in better than five minutes. The day was a grand success. There seems to be littlo doubt that hereafter this will bo a yearly' event. |
