Show PUBLIC use IS HELD ft! M (III Strong Sentiment Against Consolidation Con-solidation of the School Districts. Special to Tho Tribune. ' PARK CITY, April 21. The meeting called .by the citizens of Park City fo the purpose of protesting against the school consolidation was held at thex-elty hall Thursday evening and was well attended at-tended by prominent citizens and school patrons. The meeting was called to order or-der by Fred M. Smith, chairman, Thomas Stringer acting as secretary. Mr. Smith stated the purpose or ihe meeting and called upon Mr.. Townsend, who was the first speaker. Mr. Townsend went into details and put forth a score of reasons against consolidation, con-solidation, and explained the disadvantage disadvan-tage to which the city would be put should tho consolidation be effected. O. C. Lockhart was the next speaker. He spoke of the high school ami. the chances of losing It A county high school would be built and the pupils now attending the Park City high school would be in some country town many miles from here, because a county high school would never be built In Park Cliy. The following prominent men made talks, all against the consolidating plan S. L. Raddon, Henry Welsh. Jolin Diem, Henry Hughes, Judge Shields, L. R. Hubbard, Hub-bard, Fred Rasband ami Rev. Mr. Craven. The following committee was appoint1 cd by the chair to formulate a protest and solicit signatures to be presented to the County Commissioners: H. S. Towns-end, Towns-end, V. W. Sherman. John Diem, Henry Shields. Henry "Welsh, Fred Rasband and L. 33. Hubbard. The above committee will meet Friday night. It Is entirely a one-sided question, as Park Cily has absolutely nothing to gain, but takes a chance on losing ono of the best school systems in the State. Throughout the country towns of Summit Sum-mit county the school term is but seven months, whereas Park City alwavs has a nine-months term, and it Is quite" reasonable reason-able to believe that the people in the rural districts would not vote a nine-months nine-months term in tills city when they have but a seven-months term In their own towns. Out of 150.000 taxes, Park City paid S22.000. the total levy of Park devaluation, de-valuation, and yet some one tried to convince con-vince the citizens that consolidation would bcnefll this district. 3'ark City doeg not want consolidation, and a petition peti-tion to that cfTect. signed by everv citizen, citi-zen, will be presented to tho County Commissioners at their next meeting. |
