Show THE CADETS AS ESCORT. 'I'lie word which comes from Admiral Evans in tho nature of a personal rc- quest that tho cadets of the high school of Salt Lnkc shall act as his personal escort during the festivities attending the presence- of tho fleot in the harbor at San Francisco, makes it imperative upon this ..city to send those cadets, even it! previously the people had been lukowarm in that enterprise. But' they wcro not in the least lukowarm, but always zealous, earnest, and determined deter-mined in tho belief that this city could in no other way attain as high prestige and as wide and favorablo notice as in sending tho cadets on this trip. But now that Admiral Evans has signified his wish to havo tho cadets act as his escort during those festivities, nothing remains but that enthusiasm shall be redoubled in the cause, and that all shall seek a place among the contributors contribu-tors to this splendid enterprise. The response from tho business men and citizens generally of Salt Lake in helpful good will and money contributions contribu-tions to send the cadets down -to San Francibco has been everything that could be desired. The idea of sending the cadets down in the flrst place was based in largo degree upon tho educational educa-tional value of tho trip to th members mem-bers of the high school who compose this battalion of cadets. That trip would undoubtedly be of immense benefit bene-fit to the cadets in ever' way; it would broaden their minds; it would give them new evporiences and larger ideas; it would be worth to them moro than many months of schooling. That idea is still the underlying ono in this whole business of- sending tho cadets on this j trip. But this idea has been im.mensel-' reinforced now that Admiral Evans has expressed his desire to see the boys and have them act as his escort. There remains nothing now to do excopt rapidly rap-idly to nil up tho list of contributions and get tho cadets started promptly on time. |
