Chamber of Commerce at a recent re-cent meeting of the president and board of directors outlined plans for next year's activities. Two main segments were involved. in-volved. One related to current activities and the other to future fu-ture planning. It was agreed that the main purpose of the Chamber -of Commerce is to assist in any plans of any civic group to draw, and help retain, all possible pos-sible business of any nature to South Davis County. To do this properly and effectively will require the help, cooperation and suggestions of all businesses busi-nesses and the active participation partici-pation of all business people in the area. A drive will start shortly to enlist membership in the organization. the industry are important to every member of the comtnu-nity comtnu-nity since it spreads the tax burden and also supplies additional addi-tional money for schools and ial lother public owned and' operated facilities and services. Taxes are an important item in determining profit of an industrial in-dustrial investment. With this thought in mind it is the plan! of the Chamber of Commerce to explore the advisability of incorporating into one city the various taxing bodies and' county area from a predcter- mined line north in Davisj County to the Salt Lake City northern boundary. The i thought back of this is that one Icily combined with county income in-come from; the identical area, vvould do away with the dupli-'cation dupli-'cation and overlapping of services serv-ices such as fire protection, po-i po-i lice protection, water, sewer ;and roads, as they presently exist, and offer better services to the area through one management man-agement organization and do it with a mjnimum of taxation. The general public will be ikept appraised of the findings and offered an opportunity to j express themselves in a Chamber Cham-ber of Commerce meeting agenda. The second segment is future planning. Industrial growth is important to every resident of, the community. A smill plant; of only 100 employes will create an income of nearly cine-half million dollars per year. With the national population popu-lation increasing around 3,-000,000 3,-000,000 people per year plans must be made to obtain suit-1 lable employment for Utah's share of this population in-j crease. South Davis County is an infant in industrial growth so that it is in a position posi-tion to avoid errors before they occur if steps are taken in advance. The area is excellently ex-cellently located from the standpoint of rail transportation transporta-tion east, west and north. High ways in the same directions are good and will improve. Air transportation is available. Gas, electricity and water are in ample supply. Taxes are an important item to any industry. Taxes from |
