Show Mrs. Morton Went Too Far When Sho Applied for a Divorce and Alimony, Mr. Morton Lost His Temper. Daniel H. Morton says that his wife deserted him twice, came back and tried to poison him, sought to have him committed to the insane asylum, and finally burned down his barn. When at last she brought HUlt for divorce di-vorce and made a claim on his properly prop-erly Morton lost hia temper and decided to file a cross bill. In his answer, meu yesterday, he declares that on August 1, 1904, Mrs. Morion i?et fire to his barn at Union, was arrested by Sheriff Emery nnd confessed to Deputy Sheriffs Cowan nnd Smith while in the county jail. Deserted Him Twice. Morton now says that she deserted him twice. During their married life she treated him brutally, causing him great bodily injury and mental distress. She deserted him once on December 12, 1002, and returned to him after seven months. She deserted him ugaln-O.n ugaln-O.n December 20, 1003. On July 23 Mrs. Morton swore to a complaint charging him with insanity. He says site perjured herself In the hearing before Judge Morse. She testified testi-fied under oath that he had threatened to kill her, and he says this was a malicious ma-licious He. Strychnine in the Milk. On July 2S she put some strychnine in a quantity of milk which he had prepared pre-pared for his dinner. On drinking it he became quite 111. Finally she set fire to his barn and destroyed property to the valu? of $1093. He asks that the decree of divorce be granted to him. He claims that the vulue of his barn, which Mrs. Morton destroyed, should offset ihe real estate which he holds. This estate, he admits, Is the property of. hln wife, but he claims that she ought -to take nothing by her complaint. |
