Show Services at liferent Churches, Rabbit Hunt and Football Game for the Sportsmen. Sports-men. Poor and Unfortunate "Will Have Reason to Bemember This Anniversary. Religious exercises, feasting nnd sports are on tho programme for the obscrvanco of Thanksgiving day, and will make the day a fairly busy one for Salt Lakers. Union services are to be held In several of the churches this morning at 11 o'clock, while the Catholics and Episcopalians will worship In their own edifices. Rev. Mr. Perkins Is to speak at St. Paul's, Dean Eddie at SL Mark's and Vicar-General Kiely at St. Mary's. Union Church Services. Services III be held at the First Methodist church, where members of the First Congregational, First Presbyterian Presby-terian and Second Methodist and Central Cen-tral Christian churches will unite, Rev. T. Plnkerton to preach the sermon. At the East Side Baptist church will gather members of the Third Presbyterian. Presby-terian. 11! ff. Liberty Park, East Side I Baptist and Phillips Congregational church. Rev". P. A. Slmpkin to preach the sermon. Members of the west side churches, Including the First Baptist, Heath Methodist, Westminster Presbyterian Presby-terian and Plymouth Congregational, will unite at the First Baptist church, where Rev. D. A. Brown will preach. Babbits for the Poor. Early this morning a large number of Salt Lakers will go on the annual rabbit hunt, a special train leaving for Cedar Fort over the San Pedro at 8 o'clock. They expect to return this evening with several hundred, rnbblts, which will be distributed among tho worthy poor of the city. This afternoon the University athletic grounds will be the most attractive placo In all the city, nnd the biggest football crowd of the season Is looked for. There the contest between the University of Utah and the Colorado college team will begin at 2:30 o'clock, and It Is safe to predict that the biggest outpouring of lovers of the game ever seen -at a Thanksgiving bout here will be found on bleachers and grand stand. Feasts for Orphans. As usual, the day will not be forgotten for-gotten In the public Institutions, the orphanages and the hospitals, and a feast of good things has been prepared for all. In addition to the Thanksgiving Thanksgiv-ing dinner, the Inmates of the Utah penitentiary will enjoy a programme of music. A concert will be given this morning at 10:30 o'clock under the direction di-rection of Miss Nora Gleason, and among those who will take part are Miss Gramley, Mrs. C. C. Snyder, Miss Corlnne Harris, Miss Fltapatrlck, Miss Jost-phlne Morris, Miss Mergle Mulvey, Prof. Scheltler, "William Willis, Ed Fitzgerald and Gus Bachman, Jr. The newsboys of the city have not been forgotten, and they are to be the special guests of The Tribune, the Herald, the News and the Telegram management at Bond's restaurant today to-day at 2 o'clock. All regular newsboys are invited to the feast, tickets for which will be provided at the restaurant just before the dinner hour. Salvation Army Dinner. Following a custom established several sev-eral years ago, the Salvation army will see to It that the poor of the city have cause to give thanks for at least one fine dinner in the year. It will be served In the Realty block on West Temple street, and so generous has been the response to the appeals of the Salvation Army lads and lassies for this dinner that the following very tempting menu will be placed before the guests of tho army today: Game Roast turkey with dressing, cranberry sauco Goose with dressing Chicken with dressing Meats Prime roast beef, brown gravy Prlmo roast mutton, jelly Roast young pig, apple sauco Vegetables Mashed Irish potatoes Baked sweet potatoes v 1 Dixie squash Creamed carrots French carrots Cream corn Entrees Cold slaw Celery Veal stow Macaroni, Spanish- Bread and butter Drinks Tea and coffee Aqua pura Dessert Apple pie Pumpkin pie MInco pie Fruit But One Delivery. Regular holiday hours will be observed ob-served at tho postofnee today, there being be-ing but one delivery, with the ofllce closed for the entire day. Fifty children of the kindergarten enjoyed en-joyed a Thanksgiving luncheon yesterday, yester-day, served by the board of directors' of the institution. Tho luncheon followed fol-lowed the regular exercises of the morning, morn-ing, and was greatly enjoyed by the little lit-tle ones. |
